Meaningful Moment
When I realized that I pretty much reached my limit for the day, and admitted to myself that I had to call it quits, I was able to start to unwind. Had to do an assessment of the heat, the water situation and distance remaining. Felt like the decision to keep going would have been being stubborn in the face of the situation.

68 years old and the knees aren't what they used to be.

On the Road / Notable memories
About 80% of the way through the hike today, we lost the trail despite the use of a trail map. Ended up taking a wrong turn and that somehow added a couple of miles so in the heat, I was ready to call it quits. Was supposed to be about a 15 mile hike, but it was turning into an 18 mile hike.
Caught the train to Tres Cantos and a taxi to the hostel. Once we got to the hostel, got some laundry done, got to shower, went out and got something to eat. Feeling better, however tomorrow is supposed to be even hotter than today. In fact we're in the middle of a heatwave and about 3 days from now the temperature will be breaking 100° in the afternoon. Definitely wasn't planned for.
